How to Incorporate Pets into Weddings

If you’re like us, you can’t imagine going anywhere without your furry friend.  Whether it’s to the park, on vacation, to the grocery store, or down the aisle, many people want to make their pets a part of their big day.  And with good reason: some studies suggest that having a pet together is a sign of lasting commitment.  Plus, they look so cute in weddings!

Decor

If your pet isn’t going to be present for the wedding, you can always include references to them in the decor.  Maybe the centerpieces all feature photos of your pets, or you have cake toppers with them included.  Another cute idea that we have seen is “doggie bags” -gift bags for the party-goers’ pets that include treats and other little toys.

Photos

We have seen a lot, and we mean a lot, of wedding photos, but we still can’t help but smile when we see a dog or cat working the camera.  Try a couple of shots holding your pet, giving them kisses, and cuddling as a family.  Or, if you have a dog, try some where it looks like your buddy is pulling you two towards your next great adventure!

Ceremony

For the truly pet-committed and pet-friendly wedding, incorporate your cat or dog into the ceremony itself.  If they are well behaved, you can have them walk down the aisle with the rest of the bridal party (even sometimes carry the ring bearer’s pillow or a basket of flower petals).  If they are less than well behaved, you might want to keep them on a leash or have them sit up at the front.  Who’s to say that you can’t put a dog-bed in the front row?

Hopefully you’ve been inspired by some of these ideas and will have some pet perfection on the day of your wedding as well!  Pets are family and you don’t want to leave them out of the celebration!
